Toronto Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Matchup With Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros securing the World Series in 2017.

Canada's MLB team reached their maiden Fall Classic following 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the seventh game seven of the AL Championship Series.

Behind 3-1, the star outfielder delivered a three-run blast in the seventh inning, guiding the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. Next up are the Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the upcoming World Series.

"It's incredible for this squad, the city, our country," said Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "This is such an incredible feeling."

The veteran has now connected for 23 total playoff homers, placing him third on the list behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).

"There's probably not anyone else on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that spot except for him with his October magic," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a Fall Classic.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it hurts" in the wake of his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but commended their work this season.

"It's a special team. Sadly that we had to come out on the losing end of this game," he continued.

The Blue Jays claimed the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Dodgers in game one on Friday.
