The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.
Recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
