The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would turn into a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed sci-fi show coming to an end—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the writers' room opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Fan Response

It would be easy to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and online debates surrounding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to avoid both.

“It's like being force fed hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's intentional. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

A Pressing Query: Has the creator Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Given that the creative staff aren’t being guided by public opinion, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? The answer is yes… in a way.

“There are some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to abandon a good idea for a better idea. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
