That Gruesome Animated Film Conclusion That Haunts Viewers

Among all the mature animated films I’ve personally watched, nothing has stuck with me as much as the terror-laced ending of the viscerally violent as well as highly provocative film from 2022 The Unicorn Wars.

Back in the year 2015, the Spanish writer-director crafted a dark, melancholy and often savage world with some tiny , desolate glimmers of hope.

While The Unicorn Wars seems like it originated from an impulse to expand the medium even more, the director clarified that it was actually a try to communicate a widespread, multicultural message concerning “the shared root of all wars.”

This theme is expressed via a group of colorful pastel bears , openly based on a popular line of lovable characters.

Being raised in a community built around aggression and the defense industry, a lot of these creatures are obsessed with exterminating the mythical beasts, because of a sacred text that claims the bears they previously were masters of the woodland, until the horned beings drove them out.

A few have not completely bought into the propaganda, and would rather sample narcotics and fornicate outdoors.

Unlike their friendly equivalents, these colorful critters show genitals , definite sex drives.

For one notably brutal, pessimistic creature, Bluey, the war with unicorns turns into a path to power — and specifically to dominance over his softer, more compassionate sibling the character Tubby.

This bear behaves aggressively , a seeming sociopath , and when terror overcomes his unit and takes his teammates one by one, he seizes increasingly power personally, via progressively gory, destructive ways.

At the same time, the unicorns are experiencing their own nightmare, through a spreading, destructive monster in their habitat.

“At the beginning, it feels like a lighthearted film,” the director commented. “But then it turns into a more intense and sad film. And by the end, it transforms into a scary feature.”

The Unicorn Wars commences resembling among the playful movies from a legendary filmmaker, that uncover a wicked pleasure in allowing cartoon characters swear, shoot each other, or engage sexually.

Then it turns into something more like a more grim movie by that same director, with increasingly explicit brutality and a palpable connection to genuine suffering of conflict.

By the end, it’s an outright extreme drama carnage.

The fear that makes the film a perfect Halloween watch begins much sooner than that description suggests.

The Unicorn Wars is one for the devoted fans of gore, for lovers of graphic films who want to watch a movie they’ve never viewed until now, and can endure a story that offers no restraint.

Watch it in a dark room without any distractions, and that ending will dig under your skin and stay with you.
