Forecasters have indicated an icy beginning to the new year, with snow expected across much of the UK. Revelers have been told to wrap up as near-freezing temperatures are expected for New Year's Eve.

As we enter Friday, snow alerts are active for Northern Ireland and stretching from Wales, across parts of the north-west, the West Midlands and all the way to London and most of the south-east of England.
