Los Angeles Experiences Historic High Temperatures Just Days Following Severe Winter Weather.
Following a week of torrential rains that resulted in floodwaters across areas in the city, Los Angeles is now seeing unusually warm weather for this time of year.
Record-Shattering Temperatures
During the day Friday, the thermometer reached 91°F (33°C) in the city center, per data from weather officials. This breaks the prior high for this date, which was 88°F (31°C) and was recorded in the previous year.
"Very warm conditions" were labeled on NWS graphics for the region.
Public Health Alerts
Authorities cautioned that Friday's heat posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for those at risk. Their recommendations featured:
- Drinking plenty of fluids.
- Limiting outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Never leaving kids or animals unattended in a car.
A Sharp Weather Swing
This sharp rise in heat follows closely after a massive storm system that battered the area earlier in the week. That storm brought high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to higher elevations, leading to flash flood warnings for countless residents.
Sadly, the conditions also resulted in a massive avalanche in the Lake Tahoe area, which left nine people dead from.
Forecast Ahead
Looking ahead some relief is coming. The heat were forecast to drop to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in central Los Angeles by late Friday.
Additional areas that reached 90°F included Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Elsewhere, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were forecast to reach the high eighties.
For the weekend, downtown LA can anticipate temperatures in the eighties, with cooler weather on tap for the week ahead.
