Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's natural for concerns to be asked about his future following another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the team's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from the top,” Slot commented.

“It's important to turn it around and earn three points of course but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He added, “I am OK with my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with The Board

Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:

“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “Through standard exchanges I feel the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”

Familiar Issues and Player Response

Slot lamented recurring failings from his team in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder said.

“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”

“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a phase such as this with outcomes so bad.”

Jones finished, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to compete.”

“We will attempt to get this team return to its rightful place, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”

“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
