American Armed Forces Conducts Deadly Strike in Eastern Pacific, Leading to 4 Fatalities

As stated by a high-ranking military official, the American armed forces carried out a lethal strike on a vessel in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.

“A US joint task force conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a craft linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in international waters. Surveillance verified the vessel was transiting along a known drug smuggling route and was involved in narco-trafficking operations. A total of four male drug traffickers were killed, and no US military forces were harmed.”

Context and Prior Actions

This announcement follows a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all targeted oil tankers to and from Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the American leader alleged Venezuela of using oil profits to fund narcotics smuggling and other crimes, pledging to increase the military presence.

Only on Tuesday, US defense officials stated it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Since 2 September, over 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Defends Tactics Amidst Scrutiny

The government has faced growing demands to make public video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, officials have refused to do so. The administration has defended its campaign as a successful operation, saying it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is stretching the bounds of lawful warfare.

While the administration has said the operation is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a top official seemed to confirm a wider political objective. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff said the president “wants to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”

This suggests the military campaign may be linked to a push to oust Venezuela's sitting leadership.
